⚡ 14JUN2026: Running to Wu Tang

My dream Bomber Jacket, iOS27, capturing memories securely, the One Ring, and a sick side table.

Happy Sunday everyone!

This week, I've been exploring these hyper-detailed 3D renders of real-world environments, dreaming about visiting the Reiyukai Shakaden Temple in Tokyo, playing with Fable 5 as much as possible before it was taken away, watching sari-wearing snowboarders shred in Kashmir, and lusting after this Short Circuit-inspired Johnny Five Bomber jacket.

On to the good stuff!

🗣 iOS 27 Beta 1 + new Siri AI - Last week was the nerd Super Bowl that is Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference. This year they previewed iOS 27 featuring the new and improved Siri AI. Many folks have written way better wrap-ups than I can, however I will say that after a few days of running the beta on my daily-use iPhone (like an idiot)— it is really, really good. The new Siri is not doing leapfrogs over Claude or ChatGPT, but it is a night-and-day improvement, and giving perfectly serviceable answers to many of the quotidian questions I had been peppering other AIs with throughout the day. I'm most excited about the secure and private integration with all my files and data that the new Siri provides— as one example, while visiting family this week, my mother-in-law gave me a handwritten grocery shopping list. Rather than risk losing it on the way to the store, I took a photo and asked Siri to add all the items to my Grocery list in Reminders. It very promptly OCR'd the cursive handwriting and added everything. Extremely handy to have these capabilities baked in at the OS level. It's not perfect, however. Apart from being a beta with some rough edges, there is still plenty of room for better/tighter integrations. This morning I asked Siri for a list of Wu-Tang songs that would be good for my running workout. Siri quickly produced a great list, and then I asked for that list to be made into an Apple Music playlist. Siri tried several times, but was ultimately unable to do it, and instead offered to search for some good running playlists instead.

🧸 Keepsake - This beautiful app from indie developer Harry Brown launched earlier this month and aims to help you capture and organize all the precious physical media and keepsakes you collect in a digitized format. Whether you want to do a high-resolution scan of a child's artwork, or make a detailed 3D model of a favorite stuffed toy, Keepsake handles everything on device and stores your memories safely in iCloud. It's a wonderful concept well executed.

💍 Enso Rings - The One Ring - Because a lot of my favorite hobbies involve getting my hands either beat up or dirty, I rarely wear the beautiful wedding ring my wife gave me for fear of damaging it. Instead, most days I wear a silicone ring. I've tried a few different brands over the years, and currently wear a cheap QALO ring, but I've found these Enso rings to be really well made, and best of all they make a ton of fun variations. This new Lord of the Rings-inspired silicone One Ring has got my mouse pointer hovering over the Add to Cart button a few times a week right now.

📲 Moft Magnetic Tripod - I've written before about how great these compact, MagSafe iPhone tripods are. I used one daily for a year for both taking family and group photos and just for keeping my phone at just the right viewing angle at my desk while I worked. Sadly, I lost it. Moft must have heard my expletives, because they released a new version of the iPhone stand with built-in Find My capabilities and a Bluetooth camera remote. I've ordered another one.

🚨 M & O Delica Lamp and Side Table - I really dig the look of this combination side table and lamp that features what looks like the taillights of a late-'80s/early-'90s Japanese import sports car. The satisfying flickable switches to control the lights are perfect, and the price isn't bad (at least before you add in the cost and tariffs for shipping it from the design studio in Taiwan).

That's it for this week. May both sides of your pillow be perfectly cool.

p.s. It's still Pride Month, and I'm donating all proceeds this month to the Trevor Project, an amazing org helping LGBTQIA+ youth navigate an increasingly tricky world. Please consider joining me and donating directly to the org if you can spare a few bucks.
